‘What lead to abstraction?’

We were then, shown a presentation about different types of painting in early times and how those artist evolved their working to establish new techniques and styles of paintings.

Realism

What you see is, what you paint. Creating reality on paper.  An era that focused and dedicated on making paintings exactly how we see it in reality .

Artists such as Leonardo De Vinci ‘s famous piece Mona Lisa is an accurate example of realism.

Impressionism

Exaggerating the art ,Objects retain realistic appearance, but not reality.

Artist like Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’.

Expressionism & Fauvism

It is characterized the use of bold unrealistic colors chosen not to depict life as it is, but how it feels.

Artist who followed this style was Henry Matisse.

Abstract

Uses visual language consisting of lines, shapes, forms and color to create compositions.

Partial & Complete Abstract

Pablo Picasso was a great example as he also came up with a new style called ‘Cubism”

Abstraction is a departure from reality hiding all details
