“Without realizing it, we’re fluent in the language of pictures, says illustrator Christoph Niemann”

The class started with a ted talk by Christoph Niemann who is an illustrator, graphic designer.

In his ted talk he talked how we as readers complete, and understand a incomplete yet complete art. How minimal images can depict so many emotions, stories.

Later, in the class we discussed how simple abstract art works. How to create different angles to express feelings and stories through art form. This ted talk made us learn how to think out of the box, simplicity and unconventional ideas can be impactful.

Malvika ma’am gave us an activity to bring our personal perspective and art together to create simplistic drawings using only dots and lines. We had to create 5 drawings for each 5 topics.

The topics were:

  • Happy Place
In my first drawing piece I drew dancing feet with ghungroo.

In second, my happiness with photography was shown through the drawing of a camera.
  • Thoughts when I look out of the window
  • State of mind in the morning
  • Describe your best friend in one word
  • Highlight of your school journey

We started with the activity and realised how difficult it was, as we are used to creating realistic designs.

This activity altered my thinking to be beyond the realistic designs and be abstract.

Every design is made of lines, every line is made of dots.
